Governors cup champions - Spring 2006

Strikers Use Skills to Attain Victory

Unfortunately, Coach Kelly missed the U10 Strikers’ game on October 2. It was too bad because the boys played an amazing game. They were passing really well to each other and their skills looked excellent. Max Duncan had a great first half in goal, only letting by one goal on a direct penalty shot. He made some great saves. The Strikers’ offense tied up the game by halftime with a goal by Andrew Manalo, with the assist from Max Duncan in goal! After halftime, the Strikers racked up four more goals. Luke Rice assisted another goal by Andrew. Connor Richardson scored unassisted, Mitch Tyler scored on a direct kick because the opposing goalie picked the ball up outside the box after Luke forced him up, and Mitch finally scored another goal to win the game, 5-2. Henry LeGard was in goal the second half and only let one goal in. He had some great saves and punts. Overall, the boys played really well and communicated to one another.

Strikers’ Shutout!

The game on October 9 began with several near misses for the Strikers team. First, Trey Hoefer attempted an indirect penalty kick but didn’t score. Then, on a corner kick by Jack Shook, Mitch Tyler nearly scored off of his chest. But, finally near the end of the first half, Henry LeGard scored with a pass from Max Duncan to Tyler Rathbun and finally to Henry. In the second half, Scott Slapper walloped the ball up to Luke Rice, who scored. Later, they traded roles. Luke passed the ball to Scott at the top of the box and Scott booted it in. Finally, Trey Hoefer passed to Max Duncan, who scored by kicking the ball in the left corner, to make the final score 4-0.

Tight Score, Excellent Play

With Tyler Rathbun in goal for the first half of the game on October 10, the game remained scoreless, though the Strikers’ took a lot of shots on the opponents’goal. In the beginning of the second half, the other team scored. Andrew Manalo answered that goal with one as the opposing goalie tried to dribble the ball up. Later, Trey Daniel stole the ball from his opponent, made a breakaway and score, to make the final score 2-1.

Although the KC Spirit team scored first in the Strikers’ U10 Navy game on September 18, the team did not get down. They continued to play hard, pass well and use their moves to prevail. With the score 0-1, the Strikers tied it up when Jack Shook took a penalty shot from outside the box and put one past the goalie.  Not long after, Navy got another quick goal when Trey Daniel put another penalty shot into the goal. With the score 2-1, Tyler Rathbun scored. Throughout the game, the Navy team continued to keep their heads in the game and work on the skills Coach Kelly has been teaching them. Goalie Max Duncan held the opposing team to just one point during the first half. When Henry LeGard faced a penalty shot in the second half, he dove for the ball and tipped the ball out to avoid another score for the other team.  Two more goals, from Andrew Manalo and Luke Rice gave Navy a 5-2 win in the end.

Two in Row for U10 Navy Boys (9/15/04)

With two goals from Connor Richardson, one from Luke Rice and a last from Andrew Manalo, the U10 Navy Boys took their record to 2-0. Goalkeepers Max Duncan and Scott Slapper, playing goalie for the first time, kept the opposing team to just one goal. All of the team members showed off the “moves” that Coach Kelly has been working hard to teach them. They were great on defense, as well as persistent on offense. Luke Rice shot several times before finally putting a shot into the goal. These guys just didn’t quit! Congratulations, Navy Strikers!

Let the Games Begin!

On a perfect soccer day, with temperatures in the high 60s, the U10 Navy Strikers team played and won their first game. The boys had only practiced with the whole team two times before today’s contest, but they looked like they had been together for several seasons. Their passing was excellent and they were in their positions for crucial plays. Coach Jamie Kelly tried the boys in different spots during the two halves. Connor Richardson started in goal and Max Duncan was the keeper in the second half. Both had some great saves. The forward line was able to put the ball in the net six times, and the defense kept the BV Stars to four goals. Tyler Rathbun had three of our goals, Trey Daniel had two and Jack Shook had one. Congratulations to the U10 Strikers Navy team. What a great first game!
