90/91 Sting Team News
89/90 Sting girls have success in high school
Caitlyn Lewis and Megan McCormick of the
89/90 sing team reach the 5A final four with St.James Academy.
TOPEKA —
The program still is in its infant stages, but the St. James Academy
girls soccer
team has wasted no time joining the ranks of the state’s superpowers.
After debuting with a
junior varsity program in 2006, the Thunder went 15-4 and marched to
the state quarterfinals in 2007.
The Thunder took the next step Tuesday evening when they traveled to
Topeka Seaman and rolled
to a 3-0 victory in a quarterfinal match. The victory earned them
their first trip to the Class 5-1A state
tournament on Friday and Saturday at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.
The Sting take first place.
The 90/91G Sting took first place during
their winter indoor league, Feb 2008.
Getting to the final with a record of
6-0-2, they took first place in the final
winning 4-3.
Sting take first place at the All Girls Cup....(September 16/17 2006)
The Sting took first place at the All Girls Cup in
Lawrence, winning all 3 group
games without conceding a goal. The girls beat Neu
4-0, the Ballistics 3-0, and
Efc 1-0, winning their group undefeated.
The Sunday evening final was an exciting game
ending in a 1-1 tie, before going
into a penalty shootout.
All penalty takers scored before the Sting goalie
Ashley Harkleroad made a
great diving save ultimately winning the tournament for the
Sting.
